(TNI Information Center). The Indonesian military delegation participated in the 9th Meeting of the Military Diplomacy Forum in the Asia Pacific Region, which was held in hybrid format at the Fullerton Hotel Singapore on 18 – 19 January 2021.
The Fullerton Forum which was followed by 25 delegation countries including senior defence officials and military officers, non-governmental experts, and senior members of the IISS research staff provided a significant opportunity for regional defence policymakers to discuss the Asia-Pacific’s evolving security challenges ahead of the 2021 Shangri-La Dialogue.
The several key security topics discussed during the Fullerton Forum including the impact of Covid-19 on military and defence sector, regional security, maritime security and international law, the strategic uses of emerging technologies, and the evolving modalities of regional defence and security cooperation.
The Fullerton Forum began with the keynote remarks by the Singapore's Senior Minister of State for Defence and Manpower Mr. Zaky Muhammad and followed by the submissions from the panellists including the United States, China, England, the European Union, Indonesia, the Philippines, Germany, India and Vietnam.
The forum came up with a consensus that defence military cooperation at the regional and global levels needs to be maintained and enhanced based on the international order while creating thrust and confidence building among countries.
In addition, the Indonesian delegation who virtually attended the forum was the Director of the International Cooperation of the Indonesian Ministry of Defence Brig Gen J. Binsar Parluhutan Sianipar who was also acting as the panellist on Maritime Security and International Law discussion. Meanwhile, the Indonesian delegation who attended in person were the Indonesian Defence Attaché for Singapore Col Pnb Benny Arfan, M.MP, MMDS and his assistant Maj Arm Raden Subhi Fitra Jaya.
